This is our first stop after about an hour of walking, where we’ll pause for a few minutes to take in such a beautiful setting.
After the lagoon, the climb begins. We leave the forest area and start the ascent over rocky terrain. This is the most demanding part since the climb continues for about three hours. The mountains surrounding the area are very impressive; the Andes mountain range with its grand peaks makes us feel small.
Continuing along the trail and passing between unusual orange cliffs, we reach a natural viewpoint where you can see Laguna Esmeralda below and, in the distance, a natural spectacle.

From this point, the final climb remains. Depending on the time of year, there will be some sections where we’ll use our hands; we will wear helmets and the proper equipment.
The guide will always be attentive, accompanying the group.

We’ve arrived! After four and a half hours of steady and intense pace, we are amazed by the glacier’s front wall with its 20-meter-high ice face, its green meltwater lagoon, and its unique surroundings. In this trek, the reward for the effort is guaranteed.
In winter, the lagoon freezes and is covered with snow, so it is possible to walk right up to the ice wall.
We share a delicious lunch, nice conversations, and spectacular views before returning the same way.
This high-difficulty trek requires very good physical condition, designed for those who maintain physical training and enjoy the challenge.

Mini glacier trekking: activity available during the summer season.

The Ojo del Albino Glacier is located in the Sierra Alvear, high up in the mountains.
